Originally part of the Etobicoke Township before the Toronto amalgamation, Alderwood was considered an extension of New Toronto until mid-century urbanization turned it into an industrial and residential area in its own right. The majority of the neighbourhood is now composed of small mid-sized homes built in the 1950s and 60s. Like most areas, it is undergoing change as many older homes are now being replaced. Alderwood is a great area for young families, as there are several elementary and junior school options, as well as Alderwood Centre which hosts a community centre offering a pool, library and daycare all adjacent to the outdoor ice rink. The community’s west border is the Etobicoke Creek which features parks and trails.
